Caring Carroll is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded in December 2007, that matches trained volunteers to assist with the non-medical needs of older, isolated adults, 60+ years of age in Carroll County, MD, with limited resources, who wish to remain living independently. Providing compassion and care to the senior community for over 10 years.

Current Process

The services provided by Caring Carroll help Care Receivers with their social and mental well-being. They feel connected and a part of the community. Volunteers also feel a part of the community and gain a sense of fulfillment through their assistance with those in need.

Caring Carroll prefers that all people interested in joining Caring Carroll need to call the office themselves and leave their contact information for a return call. We use a Vonage Phone System that take the message and sends it to us in email so we have the message in writing. We then call the individual back and find a good time to complete an over the phone screening to determine if they are eligible for services.

If the individual is requesting services, they must be over 60 years of age, Carroll County resident, ambulatory (not wheelchair bound), have an emergency contact and are appropriate for volunteer services then that individual is scheduled for an in-home interview. Once an in-home interview is completed and all forms have been signed, the individual is notified as to whether or not he/she has become a Caring Carroll Care Receiver. All personal information is entered into Assisted Rides. When a Caring Carroll Care Receiver needs service, he/she calls the Caring Carroll phone line and places the request. The coordinator calls the care receiver and enters the request into the Assisted Rides Software including details of services requested such as appointment date, time and location or errand requested etc. Once the request is in the system the volunteers who are signed up for that area are able to login to the system and select the ride. Occasionally pending trip/service emails are sent.

All Caring Carroll volunteers must attend a 1-hour training session which includes Caring Carroll’s history, purpose and mission, explanation of all volunteer services offered, safety policies, and what is expected of a volunteer. Volunteers must complete and sign a volunteer application, disclosure statement, and confidentiality statement. A criminal and motor vehicle background check are completed on all volunteers through Employment Background Investigation EBI in Owings Mills, MD.

It is the policy of Caring Carroll that each care-receiver has an in-person, in-home interview and each volunteer will attend an in-person training.
